Mabel Viola Hathaway
Mable Viola Hathaway was born December 20, 1889, south of Farnam, and passed away August 2, 1975 in Cozad. She was the next to oldest of five children born to George W. and Mary O. Hathaway.
Mable, who never married, spent her entire life in service to others, particularly with her own family. She was preceded in death by her parents, by sisters, Grace Cross and Ida Hathaway and by by brothers, Alvin and Bud Hathaway.
Mable was always close and fond of sister-in-laws, Gladys Hathaway, who preceded Mable in death; and Edna Hathaway, who still lives in Farnam. Nephews who survive are Paul Hathaway, Cozad; Robert Hathaway, Florissant, Missouri; Fred Cross, Hadam, Kansas; and niece Eucillis Wilcox of Farnam.
The last five years of Mable’s life was spent at Haymaker Haven in Cozad. There she enjoyed the social life of the Haven, free from the family responsibilities she carried for so long. Frontier County was primarily her place of abode.
Mable’s cheery and optimistic outlook will be greatly missed by her friends and relatives.
Funeral services for Mable were conducted by Rev. Clark in the Farnam United Methodist Church. Pallbearers were Russell Wilcox, Fred Wilcox, Fred Cross, Allan Cross, Harold Addison, Paul Hathaway, and Merle Frazier. Mrs. Harold Addison and Mrs. Elvin Peirsol sang and were accompanied by Mrs. Kent Davis.
Interment was in the Farnam Cemetery.
