George Hathaway
George William Hathaway was born in Davis County, Iowa on Jan. 20, 1855 and died on May 18, 1926 at his home near Farnam, Nebr., age 71 years, 3 months and 28 days.
While quite young he moved with his parents to Glenwood, Mo., where he grew to manhood. On April 26, 1886 he was married to Miss Mary Forbs in Osborn Co., Kansas, where they lived for two years, and in 1888 they moved to Frontier Co., Nebr. where he spent the remainder of his life.
To this union five children were born. They are: Mrs. Grace Cross of Spring Ranch; Mable V.; John O. and Ida May of Farnam, and Alvin L. of Somerset, all of whom were present at the time of his death.
He was preceeded in death by his wife on Nov. 25, 1901. He leaves to mourn his departure, the five children, two grandsons, one brother and one sister, and a host of friends and neighbors by whom he will be greatly missed.
Mr. Hathaway was a kind and loving husband and father, an honest up-right man and a good neighbor always ready to help those in need, and whose greatest pride was in his family.
The funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the home by Rev. Geo. Seick, pastor of the M. E. church, and the remains were laid to rest beside those of his beloved wife in the Farnam cemetery.
The Echo extends its sincere sympathy with the mourning relatives at this sad hour and in the loss of this pioneer who helped to make this country what it is today.
