Max Golay Drowns in Gothenburg Lake
Max Golay, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Golay of this place was drowned in the Gothenburg lake Sunday evening about 6 o’clock. He had stopped there with his parents for a short time and went in swimming, to gain relief from the heat. Max went out beyond his depth and as there was no on near who could swim disappeared before anyone arrived who could rescue him. Men from Gothenburg came out to the lake and by diving were able to recover the body about half an hour later.
The entire Farnam community were greatly shocked in learning of the incident and the many friends of the bereaved family extend their heartfelt sympathy, in their sorrow.
Max Eugene Golay was born Oct. 11, 1915 and passed from this life on July 6, 1930, at the age of 14 years, 8 months and 25 days.
He was born in Farnam and lived his entire life in this community. He was baptized in his infancy by the Rt. Rev. George Allen Beecher, and of late years was a regular attendant of the Methodist Sunday school of Farnam. He had completed his course in the lower grades at school and was anticipating attending high school this fall. He was an ambitious boy always industrious and willing to do his part.
He left his parents, one sister, Marion, a number of relatives and a host of friends to mourn his loss.
Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon conducted by the Rt. Rev. Beecher, of Hastings and interment was made in the Farnam cemetery.
