Adolph Gewecke Dies

Adolph Gewecke, 89 years of age died at his home in the west part of Farnam early Wednesday morning following a few weeks illness. He was one of the early settlers in this community, having come [to] southeastern Nebraska in 1892 and settled on a farm south[west] of Farnam. He has resided in town the past few years.

Funeral arrangement are not yet completed, pending word from children on the West Coast, but burial will be in the Farnam Cemetery beside his wife who past (sic) away three years ago. Obituary next week.

OBITUARY


Adolph Gewecke was born December 31, 1853, at Hanover, Germany, and passed away at Farnam, Nebraska, March 10, 1943, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and [10] days.

He came with his parents to America at the age of three and settled at Beecher, Illinois, living there for a number of years and a few years in Iowa, later moved to Nebraska.

In his early youth he was confirmed in the Lutheran church and held that faith until death.

The deceased was married to Elizabeth Barchfeldt at Crown Point, Indiana, March 7, 1882, after which they settled on a farm near Ohiowa, Nebraska. In 1892 they left there to to locate near Moorefield. In 1906 they moved to their farm in Lincoln county, residing there until 1919 when they moved to Farnam and resided here until death.

His wife preceded him in death March 12, 1941, also four children who died in infancy. Surviving are his two sons, Oscar of Freewater, Oregon, and Henry of Farnam, six daughters, Lizzie Reynolds and Clara Wyckoff of Farnam, Ella Kister and Rose Dawson of Santa Ana, Calif., Louise Teel of Portland, Ore., Anne Rodman of Chicago, Ill., also 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and brother of Kearney, many relatives and a host of friends to mourn his passing.

Being a wonderful father he will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

Father, in thy gracious keeping,
Leave me now Thy servant sleeping.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. H. W. Anderson, with Rev. E. H. Tipton assisting, at the Methodist church Sunday at 2 p.m. The Olesen mortuary had charge of the funeral.

Interment in Farnam cemetery.
