William R. Fitch
William Ross Fitch was born February 21, 1874, in Olmstead Falls, Ohio, to Horace and Martha Fitch. He passed away at the Gothenburg Hospital, December 21, 1956, at the age of 82 years, 10 months.
He was united in marriage to Charlotte Mabel Ainlay at Stockville, Nebraska, on December 28, 1898. Eight years ago they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
At the age of eleven, he came to Nebraska with his parents who homesteaded south of Farnam. After living on this farm for forty years, he moved to Gothenburg with his family where he resided until his death.
Mr. Fitch has been a member of the Gothenburg Methodist Church for 25 years. Also he was a member of the Gothenburg Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and of Wildey Encampment No. 62 at Cozad.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte, four daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Shelton, Riverside, California, Mrs. Glenrose McCormick, Hastings; Mrs. Doris Smith, Farnam; and Mrs. Lucille Hyde, Gothenburg; four sons, Ronald of Pomona, California; Eugene of Hudson, Colorado; Dr. William of Albion; and Robert of Riverside, California; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Hicks, Farnam; and two brothers, Rollie of Berea, Ohio and Loren of Seattle, Washington; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Fitch was a thoughtful, kind, and loving husband and father and a good and helpful neighbor. He will be greatly missed by all who new him.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 24th, 2:00 p.m., at the Methodist Church, with Rev. A. M. Basten officiating. Music was furnished by Bernard Ristine, Keith Lysinger, Glenn Bryant and Homer Loutzenheiser, with John Greene at the organ. Pallbearers were Horace Fitch, Russell Baker, Kromborg Kjar, Blaine Miller, Ferris Boyd and Glen Wintermute. Interment in Farnam Cemetery. The McVay Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
