I. R. Edson Dies
Ivan Roscoe Edson, son of Jesse Edson and his wife, Sarah, nee Parmenter, was born Dec. 21, 1882, at Ravenna, Nebraska. He grew up in the vicinity of his birth and lived there until about 25 years ago.
He was united in marriage on May 6, 1908, with Miss Annie Tatem. he and his bride established a home near Ravenna. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, all of whom are living: George of Farnam; Earl of Lexington; Roscoe of Fremont; Trena (Mrs. Stevenson) of Eustis; Grace (Mrs. Schulteiss) of Hershey; Dorothy at home and Ruby of Douglas, Wyoming.
Mr. Edson became a member of the Lutheran church in 1908. He was baptized by Pastor Baumann on April 7, 1908, at the Cedar Creek church near Poole, Nebr.
In 1921 the deceased and his family moved to Farnam community and with the exception of two years resided in this community until his death.
Sinc 1936 he adhered to St. Johns Lutheran church in Eustis. He had received the Lord’s Supper last on Reformation Sunday, October 28, and was in his accustomed place in church the last Sunday morning of his life. His wife and children remember him as a good Christian husband and father in whose character honesty was deeply ingrained.
The Lord had let Mr. Edson enjoy excellent health except for the common illnesses common to most people. True, he realized he could no longer carry on the heavy farm work alone, and had made arrangements to move into Farnam this spring, but had never been sickly.
Friday morning, apparently in good health, he left the house to go out where corn was to be shelled. He collapsed suddenly and died about 9:30 o’clock before medical aid could be reached. God had granted him 63 years, 1 month and 4 days in this world.
His passing is mourned by his wife and children, his son-in-law and daughters-in-law, fifteen grandchildren, three brothers Charlie and Leslie of Poole and Guy of Colorado; four sisters, Edith Edson and Mrs. Ella Franklin of Northport, Mrs. Grace Franklin of Ravenna and Mrs. Pearl Reitnour of Santa Ana, Calif., and other relatives and friends.
Short funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Hugo Funeral Home in Gothenburg, followed by services in the Lutheran church in Eustis by Rev. R. Riensche. Interment in Farnam cemetery.
