Mildred H. Edson
Mildred Hicks Edson, 90, of North Platte, formerly of the Farnam area, died Feb. 18, 2002, at Linden Court in North Platte.
She was born July 29, 1911, at Farnam to Joseph and Clara Irwin Hicks. She attended Mount Hope rural school, ten miles south of Farnam. She graduated from Farnam High School in 1928, and from Kearney State Teacher’s College in 1963. On Nov. 28, 1934, she married Earl Edson at Farnam. He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1960. They lived on farms near Farnam most of their married life, except for a brief period when they lived in Lexington. She moved to North Platte in 1961. She taught school for 32 years in rural schools near Farnam, Farnam Public School, and North Platte Cody School. She retired in 1976.
Mrs. Edson was a member of the North Platte United Methodist Church and the Farnam Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Her hobbies included playing bridge, reading, sewing, quilting and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn (Don) Heath of Farnam, Lois Morrison of Denver and Audrey (Ron) Rousey of North Platte; eight grandchildren, Sherry, Sandra, Kimberly, Dallas, Kelly, Galen, Tyrell and Tess; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Vernona) Hicks of Kennewick, Wash.; two sister-in-laws, Trena Stevenson of Hershey and Ruby (George) Carmin of Douglas, Wyo.; and two brother-in-laws, Roscoe (Madolene) Edson of Fremont and Herman Schultheiss of North Platte.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sister-in-laws, Grace Schultheiss and Dorothy Freeman; and two brother-in-laws, George (Elinor) Edson and Willis Stevenson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Lux officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Farnam Cemetery.
