Mrs. Mary Delate died

Mrs. Mary Delate died Monday, March 20, at about 12 o’clock p.m., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ella Hodgkin, one half mile east of Farnam, of heart failure. Her three surviving children, her brother, F. M. Hall of Earl, and part of her grand children were with her during the most of her brief illness and at her death. She was taken suddenly ill about noon, Saturday, and gradually sank away until relieved by death. She was one of Frontier county’s early settlers, having located near Orafino in 1884, and is well known and fondly remembered by most of the residents of that locality. The remains was laid to rest in the Farnam cemetery Tuesday, after a brief funeral service at the home, conducted by J. E. Craig, pastor of the Cong’l church of Farnam. All her relatives within reach and a large number of neighbors attended the funeral.

OBITUARY

Mary Hall was born at Andover, Vermont, June 18, 1825; was married to Wm. DeLate at Belvideere, Ill., Dec. 3, 1854; moved to Nora, Ill., in Sep. 1856; in March 1878 she, with her children moved to Republic county, Kansas; and in 1884, to Frontier county, Nebr., where she resided until about four years ago, when she came to Farnam and lived with her daughter until the day of her death.

Her life has been a remarkably active and energetic one. She rarely was sick, but was constantly doing, not only of herself, but for her children, grand children and neighbors. Her heart and purse were ever open to the call of the needy and her time and services were at all times cheerfully given to those who were sick or in distress.

She was a woman of remarkable intellect, had excellent business ability, was a great reader and took the most lively interest in all passing events. Her life has been lived grandly; her work well done, on earth, and she has gone to her reward; to that grander life of greater possibilities, where the noble spirit may expand and develop throughout the ages of eternity.

Out of a family of ten children, only two brothers, Norman Hall of Afton, New York, and F. M. Hall of Earl, Nebr., survive her. They, together with one son, two daughters, seventeen gran-children and other relatives mourn her loss and rejoice at her entrance into that higher life. She was 79 years, nine months and two days old at death.

"We spend our years as a tale that is told."—Psalms 90:8.

Oh let us truct, with holy men of old,
Not all the story here begun is told.
So the tired spirit, waiting to be freed,
On life’s last leaf, with tranquil eye shall read,br> By the pale glimmer of the torch reversed,
Not finis, but the end ov volume first.

Life’s race well run,
Life’s work well done,
Life’s crown well won–
Now comes Rest.
