Elzina (Painter) DeLate
Elzina Painter was born at Albany, Ohio, Oct. 12, 1861. Died May 15, 1939; age 77 years, 7 months and 3 days.
When 5 years of age she moved with her parents to Republic county, Kansas, where in 1879 she was married to John Delate. To this union were born 11 children, five of whom, together with Mr. Delate have preceeded [sic] her.
The six surviving children are Geo., Moorefield; Mrs. Elma Waits, Gothenburg; Roy, Olympia, Wash.; Mrs. Julia Hill, Mrs. Clara Nall and Mrs. Bernice Swanson, Moorefield. Other immediate relatives include one brother, three sisters, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was a devoted wife and mother and kept the best interest of her family always at heart. Although an invalid the last days of her life, family and friends will ever think of her as of those days before her health was impaired, of the fellowship, the hospitality, and the fortitude with which she met the trials that attended the rearing of a large family in those pioneer days.
There is no death! The stars go down
To rise upon some fairer shore;
And bright in Heaven’s jeweled crown
They shine forever more.
There is no death! An angel form
Walks o’er the earth with silent tread;
He bears our best loved things away,
And then we call them "dead."
And ever near us, though unseen,
The dear, immortal spirits tread;
For all the boundless universe
Is life—there is no dead.
