Obituary Collection
Morris W. Crossgrove

A very sad accident occurred to Morris W. Crossgrove the eight year-old son of E. W. Crossgrove, last Saturday afternoon Jan. 18th. The boy was out riding and in some way was thrown from his horse and almost instantly killed. How it happened no one will ever know as no one was with him at the time and he was not missed until his horse returned home without him.

DIED—With a suddenness that in itself constituted a mental shock and which greatly aggravated the sadness that is inseparable to the loss of life, came the announcement Saturday last, of the death of Morris W. Crossgrove, one of the son of our highly esteemed and respected citizens E. W. Crossgrove. A brief service consisting of prayer, was held at the residence of the family, the remains being brought to the Congregational Church where at 3 p.m. on Sunday Jan. 19th, only a short 24 hours after the accident, an appropriate sermon was preached by Rev. E. E. Sprague which was heard by almost the entire community. The remains were interred in the cemetery adjoining the town, and the sympathy of the community is unreseredly poured out to the bereaved and stricken family. It is almost a platitude to say that no words of consolation or philosophy can mitigate the grief of the family and it still leaves, unsolved, the mystery comprehended in the question “Why are the young and promising lives taken and those of the old, worn and weary spared?”
