D. D. Case Dies Suddenly

D. D. Case passed away at his home Wednesday morning at 8:00 a. m. from a heart attack.

He had been in poor health for several months, but had apparently been improving lately, and had returned from an Omaha hospital, a short time ago.

The many friends of the family are grieved to hear the sad news of his passing.

Funeral arrangements had not been made at the time we print this week.

The Farnam Echo 34(31):1, Thursday, 7 April 1938

Daniel D. Case

Daniel Day Case, the son of Samuel Nelson Case and Margaret Ellen Case, was born March 3, 1880, at Giltner, Nebr., where he made his home as a child and young man.

On July 1, 1908 he was united in marriage to Ellen Mary McHale of Seward, Nebraska. To this union were born four children, one of whom, a son, preceded him in death.

The first five years of his married life were spent on the farm near Giltner, followed by a short period of time in Denver. In 1913 the family moved to Farnam, Nebr., where they have since resided.

He has been in business in Farnam for some time having been proprietor of the Ford garage for the last twelve years. His honesty and integrity were above reproach, his word being as good as his bond.

Mr. Case has been in ill health the past year and has been under the doctor’s care the last three months, having spent a part of that time in the local hospital and six weeks in an Omaha hospital. However, all that loving hands could do was of no avail.

He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful wife three daughters, Eva Chandler of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Helen and Dorothy at home; one graddaughter, Jean Chandler; three sisters, Mrs. Rena Spangenberg of Grand Island, Nebr.; Mrs. Cora Phelps, of Fontana, Calif. and Mrs. Mary Ready of Giltner, Nebr., and friends.

In the death of Mr. Case the community has lost a highly respected resident, one whose life was exemplary and uplifting. He was a devoted husband, a kind and loving father and a helping hand to those about him.

He had been a member of the Modern Woodmen of America for thirty-five years, and was baptized into the Catholic church. He passed away at his home April 6, 1938 at the age of 58 years, 1 month and 3 days. His faith in God and his good deeds in this life have been rewarded.

The funeral was held from St. Joseph’s church in Farnam Saturday, April 9, and the body was laid to rest in the Farnam cemetery.

Like a ship that’s left its moorings
And sails bravely out to sea—
So someone dear has sailed away
In calm serenity.
But there’s promise of a greater love
Than earth could have in store
For God has planned a richer life
Beyond the unseen shore.
