Henry N. Brown

Henry N. Brown, one of the early pioneers of the Farnam community, passed away Friday morning.

Henry Newton Brown was born July 22, 1858, at Ainsworth, Iowa. On Feb. 18, 1880, he was united in marriage to Katherine Lehmann, a son and two daughters being born to the union.

In 1886 he homesteaded near Farnam and made his home here until 1922 when he and Mrs. Brown moved to North Platte, residing there until the death of Mrs. Brown in 1938. Since that time he had made his home with his daugther, Mrs. H. S. Haskins. He passed away Friday morning, April 19, 1940, at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Mr. Brown’s life was the exemplification of everything good, and he enjoyed the friendship of all with whom he came in contact. He held no enmity toward any human being, and his life was glorified by the admiration of all who knew him.

Surviving him are his two daughters, Mrs. Elma Haskins of Farnam and Mrs. Henrietta Beisner of North Platte; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother in North Carolina and a sister in New York. His only son, Berton, preceded him in death in 1938.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist church, the pastor, Rev. Samuel Mitchell, officiating. The McNickle male quartet, Dan, Harve, and John McNickle and Marion Taylor, sang, accompanied by Mrs. Loren Fitch. Pallbearers were his nephews: Alvin Easterday, Geo. Ringenberg, Ralph Jurjens, Amos Jurjens, Harold Brown adn Birch Lehmann. Interment was in Farnam cemetery.
