Charles H. Brasch

Charles Henry Brasch was born in a little village near Berlin, Germany on November 4, 1866 and died at Farnam, Nebraska on April 27, 1944 at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 23 days. While yet a resident of Germany, he was christened and confirmed in the German Lutheran Church.

He came to America at the age of sixteen and settled in the state of Illinois. He later came westward and settled near Grafton, Nebraska were he resided for some time. Later, with a friend, he went to Colorado in search of a homestead site. Failing to find anything there, he returned to this vicinity and worked near Farnam for several years.

February 10, 1897, he was married to Edith Grooms and to this union six children were born, one dying in infancy. Soon after their marriage they moved near to Gothenburg, living there near a year and then moving to the farm east of Farnam. His wife passed away December 25, 1931.

Mr. Brasch was an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for several years.

He first became ill in August 1941, steadily growing worse since that time, until he finally became confined to his home.

His five surviving children are: Mrs. Esther Ragsdale, Farnam; Mrs. Ruth Timm, Eustis; Clarence Brasch, Farnam; Martin Brasch, Mexico City, and John Brasch, Nampa, Idaho. Also three grandchildren; Barney Gene and Betty Jo Ragsdale and Frederick Martin Brasch; two sisters, Mrs. Regina Raetz of North Platte, and Mrs. Reika Fassier of Drinkwaer, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Olesen Mortuary to the local Baptist church and were conducted by Rev. Rodewald of the Nazarene church. Singers were Mr. and Mrs. Dan McNickle and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Pollard. Pallbearers were Owen Thompson, Ves Hazen, John Schurr, Ralph Clement, Burr Parker, and S. C. Wilcox.

Interment was in the Farnam Cemetery.
