Helen M. (Moore) Bradshaw
Mrs. Calvin Bradshaw wife of our Farnam postmaster, died at her home on Tuesday morning of this week after a long and painful illness caused by accidently falling more than three years ago.
Mrs. Bradshaw was one of Farnam’s most highly respected ladies, a woman greatly beloved by all who knew her. Her loss is felt throughout the entire community.
The funeral service was held at the M. E. church on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. H. H. Pysche, pastor of the Congregational church officiating.
The music rendered by a mixed quartette was most beautiful and appropriate, a very large congregation from town and the surrounding country came to pay their last full measure of respect to the one they had known and loved so long, the floral offerings were many and beautiful.
Helen Margaret Moore was born July 13th, 1841 at St. Louis, Mo., died at Farnam, Neb., September 9th, 1913, age seventy-two years, one month and twenty-seven days. She was united in marriage to Calvin Bradshaw on June 26, 1869.
At the age of fourteen she became a member of the Presbyterian church, in 1870, she with her husband united with the M. E. church at Davenport, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw came to Farnam in 1883 residing on a farm north of town until 1898, at the organization of the Congregational church both became members, remaining with that body until the M. E. church of Farnam was organized when they again found a home in the church of their choice.
Mrs. Bradshaw was also a charter member of the Rebecca Lodge of Farnam. A woman “full of faith and good works” perhaps expresses in a sentence the essence of this beautiful life so recently closed as peacefully as the going down of a summer sun.
Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs. John Dawson of Farnam, Mrs. Bradshaw leaves three sisters and one brother as follows: Mrs. N.J. Voodry of Maywood, Neb., Mrs. L. R. Troop and Mrs. N. A. Leist, both of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Mr. J. L. Moore of Selma, La.
Her friends in this community may be found in every household including both young and old, she shared the joys and sorrows of all.
“Good night beloved
Sleep on and take thy rest;
Lay down they head
Upon thy Savior’s breast,
We loved thee well
But Jesus loved thee best,
Good night, good night, good night.
Until made beautiful
By love divine,
Tohu in the likeness
Of the Lord shall shine,
And He shall bring
That golden crown of thine,
Good night, good night, good night.”
