Calvin Bradshaw
Calvin Bradshaw was born in Edgar county, Illinois, April 20, 1844, and died at the Soldiers' Hospital in Burkett, Nebraska, Saturday evening, November 30, 1918. He was 74 years, seven months and ten days old.
He came to Walpalo county, Iowa, with his parents in 1846, and from there moved to Cass county, Iowa where he grew to manhood, and enlisted in the Civil war from Lewis, Iowa in 1862, serving there three years in Co. I, 23d Iowa Infantry, being wounded three times, and has been a sufferer for many years from a lung wound received near Vicksburg. In 1866 he was converted and joined the Methodist church and was an active member of that church until his death.
He was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Moore at Davenport, Iowa June 27, 1869. In 1877 they moved to Plattsmouth, Nebraska, living there eight years and from there they moved on a homestead in Lincoln county, living on their claim near Farnam until Mr. Bradshaw was appointed postmaster at Farnam postoffice April 1st, 1898, serving in that office for 18 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw have lived in this community 33 years; she having departed this life five years ago.
He had been a constant sufferer for over a year until death relieved him. He leaves to mourn his departure an adopted daughter Mrs. John Dawson and family of Farnam, Nebr., and two brothers. Victor Bradshaw of Montana, Harvey Bradshaw of California. His sister, Mrs. Lydia Jackson of Avoca, Iowa having passed away but two weeks ago. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
The remains were shipped to Gothenburg and brought to Farnam for burial where with a short service he was laid to rest beside his wife.
