Alice P. (Murkle) Beck
Alice Phoebe Murkle was born March 18, 1884, in Carroll, Iowa. She was the daughter of Wilhelmina Graham and Fred Murkle.
When she was a child her family moved to Cedar county, Nebraska, where she grew to young womanhood.
In 1903 she was united in marriage to Fred Delos Beck who preceded her in death in 1945.
To this union were born seven children: Emily Bristow of Edmond Oklahoma, Alice Cleo who died in infancy, Frances Meick of Alamosa, Colorado, Lyol of San Gabriel, California, Gladys Beery of Curtis, Leslie of Alamosa, Colorado and Fred of Farnam.
Survivors are six children, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters: Mrs. Joe Meick of Sidney and Mrs. Dora Henricksen of Hartington; nieces, nephews and an innumerable host of friends.
One grandson, Edward Bristow, a marine was killed at Guadalcanal.
Her life was a life of service and her deeds all speak for her. Even to her last breath she was thinking of others.
Funeral services were held at the local Nazarene church Thursday with Rev. Noble Hunt and Rev. T. B. Gray officiating. McVay funeral home was in charge.
Singers were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Pollard, David Banks and Mrs. Chas. Davis with Mrs. Jay Rice pianist.
Pallbearers were Ralph Jurjens, Elgie Thompson, Harold Lehman, Ralph Clement, John Oberg and Dale Montgomery.
Interment in Farnam Cemetery.
