Emma Lee Austin, 96, Passes On at Home of Her Daughter

Homesteaded Northwest. of Farnam in 1887. Mother of Ira Austin of Gothenburg.

Emma Lee Anderson was born Feb. 15, 1857, near Jacksonville, Illinois, and passed away after a brief illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Pollard, in Boulder, Colo., at the age of 96 years, 3 months, and 5 days.

She was united in marriage to William Porter Austin, Nov. 26th, 1874. To this union was born seven children. Surviving: Daisy Caroline Craig, Brady; Eleanor A. Craig, Grand Island; Ira Oran, Gothenburg; Ina Agnes Rowland, Bellflower, Calif.; Edith Viola Pollard, Boulder, Colo. Deceased are; James Irvin Austin and George William Austin.

They came to Nebraska in 1887 and homesteaded 12 miles northwest of Farnam, in Lincoln County, where they resided until 1906, when they moved to Farnam. There the husband and father passed away July 27, 1919.

She was a faithful member of the Methodist church, and despite her advanced age was a regular attendant of the First Methodist church of Boulder, Colo., where she has resided for the past six years.

Being a devout Christian, always ready to help anyone in need, she will be greatly missed by her loved ones and her many friends. For to know her was to love her.

Besides her five children, she leads to mourn her passing, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ira Austin; two sons-in-laws, Walter Pollard and Fred Rowland; 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, May 23, at two-thirty o’clock at the Farnam Methodist church, Rev. B. H. Hart officiating. Mrs. Hugo Blomquist, Mrs. Elvin Piersol, Dan McNickle, and Dale Montgomery were the singers, Mrs. Earl Edson accompanying them at the piano. The pallbearers were Dwight Austin, Donald Craig, Kent Peterson, George Austin, Gordon Moore and Thurman Foote. Internment was in the family lot in the Farnam Cemetery. The Olesen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
