F.H.S. Gets State Numeral Banner

Two hundred and sixty three won the state numeral this season. Those 263 men are able to wear a positive badge of merit. From one end of the state to the other no matter where they may be, that State Numeral stands for a definite and recognized standard of performance.

It is an honor to wear a State Numeral.

Farnam won first in the state numeral list with 4 full blues and three half blues out of a total of 40 boys in the school, this gives Farnam the State Numeral Banner for 1923. (Note: In estimating standings a full blue counts two points, and a half blue, one. Hence Farnam’s 40 boys scored 11 points or 27.5 percent.) Following is the standing of the six next highest towns:
2 Callaway, 66 men in school, 19.7
3 Bloomfield, 56 men in school, 16.0
4 Tobias, 38 men in school, 15.4
5 Gothenburg, 85 men in school, 15.2
6 Clay Center, 60 men in school, 15.0

The members of the Farnam team were: Full blue, Robert Pollard, Marion Johnson, Seaton Smith, Frank Whetstone; half blue, Willard Carman, Milo Greenlee and Ralph Parker.

56 schools are represented on the 1923 Numeral Roll. The figures were taken from the Universtiy Extension News.

This is a very high honor for a team of this size and we are proud of our boys and the work they are doing in athletics. Our school is growing every year and we hope that we may be able to hold the state banner again this year. Farnam has also gained much ... football and basketball playing and we have the promise of splendid teams again this year. We expect to have a roster of the football players before long which we will publish in the Echo so that you may see that we are putting out to fight ... this fall.

The Farnam Echo 44:1, Thursday, 13 September 1923
