Fire at Martin Gas Station

Shortly after 8 o’clock Tuesday evening the sounding of the fire siren brought out most of the citizens and firemen to find that the J. O. Martin service station was afire.

The building, located at the rear of his grocery store, was of frame construction and this, together with the usual amount of oil around such places, caused the fire to gain headway quickly, and by the time the water was turned on the first task was to keep the fire away from the gas pumps in front of the building. This was accomplished, but the building was almost completely burned.

The building and contents were insured.

Cause of the fire is not known but it as supposed to have started from some of the heating or electric equipment.
