From Camp Cody (Harris)

February 1, 1918.

Dear Father:

How is everything up there by this time? I suppose it is pretty cold. Guess our winter is over with now, for it is getting warm now in the daytime, but is still pretty cool at night. We had two snow storms and two rains this winter, so you see we had a fierce one.

We are dividing our company into platoons consisting of rifle men, machine gunmen, automatice riflemen, bombers and rifle grenadiers. I guess I will be in the machine gun division.

Company A mess hall and three tents caught fire yesterday, all at the same time, and we had a dickens of a time trying to put out all four at once. There is at least two or three fires in camp every day, but there is so many men around that they always get them out before any damage is done.

From that Rookie from the 13th Squad,

Lester J. Harris.
