Necessary and needed were the ORGANIZATIONS of Farnam
FIRST G.A.R. FLAG MADE OF CALICO
The J. W. McClain G. A. R. post was organized in 1886 or 87 with a membership of 22. The post desired to have a flag, and as the funds were low they bought red, white and blue calico and Mrs. N. L. Moore with the assistance of a few friends, made the flag which was used until worn out. The post later bought a flag and a few years ago J. B. Kitchen, then the only local surviving member of the post presented Mrs. Laura Stebbins the flag, which is treasured highly by Mrs. Stebbins, as her father, N. L. Moore, was instrumental in the organization of the Farnam G. A. R.
