MR. and MRS. J. B. KITCHEN WED SIXTY-SEVEN YEARS

The Famam Echo, 1933

J. B. Kitchen was born at Shelbyville, Indiana, April 14, 1845. He grew to manhood there and enlisted in the army Sept. 5, 1861 and served until December 25, 1865. Mr. Kitchen was the last local Civil War veteran to be called to his reward on Feb. 28, 1933.

Mrs. Kitchen was born at Fairland, Indiana, Oct. 7, 1845. She grew to womanhood there and was united in marriage to J. B. Kitchen on April 5, 1866. Mrs. Kitchen passed away July 10, 1934.

Mr. and Mrs. Kitchen started for Nebraska soon after their marriage, but later returned to Indiana. Then they came back to Nemaha County, Nebr. in 1870. They landed in old Brownville with two children, two horses, a dog and 35 cents. They journeyed from Indiana in a covered wagon. They came to Farnam Nov. 7,1889 and with the exception of a few months the remainder of the time was spent here.

They located in Frontier County, where Mr. Betz now lives. In the spring of 1890 they moved on H. T. McNickle’s place where Oscar Gewecke now lives, moving from there back to Frontier County where Mr. Rader now lives.

In the spring of 1891 they bought the west half of the Keystone place. They moved the house from the east side of the place to the west side. This house was the old Keystone Hotel. The house where J. C. Kitchen now lives.

J. C. Kitchen came to this country just a year before his parents, in 1888.

The living members of the family are: (Adah) Mrs. T. L. Puderbaugh, Bremerton, Wash.; (Ethel) Mrs. Marion Faulkes, Los Angeles, Calif.; John C. Kitchen, Farnam, Nebr.; Lester C. Kitchen, Curtis, Nebr.; Omar C. Kitchen, North Platte.

Mr. and Mrs. Kitchen were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary together, and then many other happy anniversaries.

Probably no other residents that have ever lived at Farnam since the settlement of this country have lived to enjoy 67 years of wedded life together, as did Mr. and Mrs. Kitchen.
