DECORATION DAY OBSERVED IN 1917
The Decoration Day program observed yesterday was a decided success in every detail and although the weather looked exceedingly threatening the audience was so large that the tent which was procured for the occasion could not begin to hold them all, a number of automobiles were parked around the tent and were also filled with eager listeners.
The program rendered was a credit to the talent of Farnam, and many were the praises heard in favor of our band who certainly furnished several very appropriate selections at the tent and in the procession.
The program was opened by the audience singing that old, but much loved song "America" after which, prayer was offered by Rev. T. E. Gillet, followed with two beautiful selections by the McNickle Bros, quartette. The Gettysburg address was delivered by Prof. J. E. Mannix, and Prof. L. E. Peterson, as usual, pleased his audience with a short but impressive talk. Comrade B. F. Smith of Juniata was speaker of the day and filled that capacity in a very creditable manner. Mr. Smith’s address was followed by roll call, song and closed with prayer by Rev. C. A. Irvin. The procession then fell in line, headed by the Farnam band, and marched to the cemetery where flower girls placed a wreath and a bouquet of flowers on each deceased soldier’s grave.
After the band returned from the cemetery, they marched to the home of James Robinson, who was unable to attend the service with his fellow comrades and played several selections for his special benefit.
