OBITUARY
Eldon Merton Todd, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Merton Todd, was born near Moorefield, Nebraska, June 29, 1921. There he attended grade school. Later he moved with his parents to Curtis, where he graduated from the Curtis Agricultural school with the class of 1939.
He was a member of the Boy’s Glee Club while in school and later continued to use his talents with the choir of the Methodist church.
He accepted a position with the United Fruit Company and on October 29, 1941, he sailed for Progress, Honduras where he greatly enjoyed his work until an accident caused his untimely death, July 4, 1942, at Tela, Honduras.
A great life is not necessarily a life of fame and fortune or one of great duration, but is a life which has an increasing desire for usefulness and to make life more pleasant for others. This spirit was always manifested by Eldon in his eagerness to help those in need.
Funeral services were conducted Friday from the Curtis Methodist church by the Rev. L. A. Moore. Interment was in the Curtis cemetery.
There is a reaper whose name is Death
And with his sickle keen,
He reaps the bearded grain at a breath
And the flowers that grown between.
“Shall I have naught that is fair?” sayeth he,
Have naught but the bearded grain?
Though the breath of these flowers is sweet to me
I will give them all back again.
