Steve Mast

Steve Mast of Moorefield, who was run over by an auto in Curtis a couple weeks ago, and not getting along as well as desired by the attending physician and his folks, was taken to North Platte for further treatment in the hospital. The trip was made last Friday, overland. That evening he underwent an operation and died shortly afterwards.

On Saturday morning the sad news of his death was received here by phone.

Mr. Mast was a man long in years and prior to his accident, had undergone a severe sick spell. Taking that and his age in consideration, he was not in very good shape to battle with the accident that unfortunately befell him.

Mr. Mast was one of Frontier county's pioneers, a respected citizen and good neighbor. The family and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in the death of a beloved husband, father and citizen.

HON. S. D. MAST PASSES AWAY

Word, received here Friday night, July 2, from North Platte, announcing the death of Hon. S. D. Mast, was quite a shock to this community. Mr. Mast was run down by an automobile in Curtis about two weeks before and for some time he was thought to be improving, although the extent of his injuries was slow in developing. Later it was decided to take him to North Platte to the hospital, in hopes of benefiting his condition. He was taken there Friday forenoon, but died Friday evening and was brought to his home here, where he was kept until day of the funeral, Tuesday.

His wife passed away a few years ago, and on Tuesday afternoon, July 6, the last remains of Mr. Mast were tenderly laid to rest beside his wife in the Moorefield cemetery. Funeral services were conducted at the Moorefield church by Rev. Neve and attended by a large assemblage of friends and neighbors.

Mr. Mast was representative in the legislature of 1911 and held numerous school offices and other places of trust. He was a very considerate neighbor and a man of sterling qualities, and a man who had the confidence of a very wide circle of friends.—Moorefield Herald.
