Mrs. Dellaphean Smith

Mrs. Dellaphean Smith passed away, after suffering from a long illness, on Friday, October 1, 1948, at her home in Gothenburg, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 11 days.

Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Alexander and Cynthia Earll, born in Albany, New York, on November 12, 1855. She was married in 1872 to Charles H. Smith of New York, who was then in the service of the U. S. Navy. To this union wa born one daughter, the late Mrs. William McNett of Gothenburg, Nebr. Both husband and daughter preceded her in death.

Mrs. Smith has resided in and around Gothenburg for 59 years, coming here from Corning, Iowa.

Mrs. Smith leaves to mourn her loss, one brother, John Earll, Gothenburg; three grandchildren: Daisy D. Beaty, North Platte, Mrs. Lorenz A. Ernst, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Mrs. Cleon B. Colkitt, Cozad; nine nephews and five nieces, among whom are: Mrs. Thomas A. Parson, Mrs. Olin Smith and Mrs. Albert McDermott, of Gothenburg, Mrs. Albert Stauffer of Arnold, W. E. Putnam of San Diego, Calif., Warren Earll of Gothenburg, John Earll residing in Wyoming, and others residing in and around Gothenburg.

Her cheerful generosity and patient understanding of others’ needs and problems endeared her to all who knew her.

On Tuesday, Oct. 5th, 1948, funeral services were held in the Olesen Funeral Home, and interment in Peckham cemetery, with Rev. Gale A. Moon of the Methodist church officiating, and veterans of World War I actiing as pallbearers. They were: Charles Tederman, Roy Homer, Jess Quinn, Harvey Jagger, James Clark and Dawson Owings. Mrs. Molly Olson and Mrs. Evelyn Kauffman were the singers, Mrs. George Walters accompanying them on the organ.
