Obituary Collection
William McGinnis
Services Wednesday

William Finnis McGinnis, oldest son of Calvin Downs and Susan Alice McGinnis, was born at Quitman, Mo., January 30, 1867. After a lingering illness, he passed away at his home in Blue Springs, Nebr. August 23, 1948 at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 23 days.

On Feb. 14, 1891, William was united in marriage to Mabel Kathryn Adams, at Reedsville, Kans. They moved to Farnam, Nebr. where they lived on a ranch. They made a place in their home for two children, Aetna Willis and Carrie McGinnis. Later in their married life they moved to Blue Springs, in which community they made their home.

William’s home was broken by the death of Mabel on Jan. 6, 1930. After several years, his lonely home was made bright again when he was married to Mary Lillian Backes, October 10, 1934, at Pickrell, Nebr. This couple spent a happy 13 years together, with Mary giving him tender care during his last illness.

William was converted to a faith in Christ while living on the ranch near Farnam, Nebr.; upon moving to Blue Springs, he joined the United Brethren Church; his faith in Christ gave him hope and held him steady during the hours of his last illness.

Those made sad by his passing are: his wife, Mary; three sisters, Mattie E. Ake, Blue Springs, Clara L. Showen, Wymore, and Ida J. Thoman, Blue Springs; two brothers, Clyde D., Blue Springs, and James G., Lusk, Wyo.; his foster-son, Aetna Willis, Blue Springs; five stepsons and two stepdaughters, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Miller Funeral Home, Rev. Harold Massie officiating. Interment was in the Blue Springs cemetery.
