J. U. Marshall

Joseph Ulysses Marshall, son of Jacob and Sarah Marshall, was born in Clarington, Ohio, February 16, 1851, and died September 28, 1927, aged 76 years, 7 months and 12 days.

His father died when he was three years old and his mother when he was seven, and he was then taken to Appanoose Co., Iowa, to live with his grandparents.

He was married Setp. 9, 1877, to Lucinda Dewitt, at which time they resided in Worth Co., Missouri.

Three children were born to them, Maud E., who died in infancy, Ulysses Alvin and Myrtle Northrup, both of whom survive them, also three grandchildren.

In 1890 he and his family moved to Gothenburg, Nebr., where they resided until 1914, when, owing to ill health, he and his wife moved to Glenwood, Ia., where his wife died Oct. 3, 1917.

His daughter and children then resided with him. In 1919 they all moved to Skidmore, Mo., then to Diller in 1923.

Mr. Marshall was always a hard working man and his family was always first in his thoughts.

A short service was held at the house yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. M. Harris, of the M. E. church, the remains were then shipped from Fairbury to Glenwood, Ia., and laid to rest by the side of his wife.
