Charles F. Jay

The message was received by relatives Saturday that Charles F. Jay had passed away at his home in Gravette, Ark., Friday, Jan. 5. His death was caused by pneumonia. The body was brought to Holdrege by his wife and they arrived Monday evening. His funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Jay’s sister, Mrs. Sophia Sandstrom on Morton St., Tuesday afternoon at 1 o’clock, Rev. Reed of the Methodist church conducting the services. The music was furnished by a mixed quartette.

Charles Ferdinand Jay was born at Chanton, Iowa, Dec. 6, 1861 and at his death he had reached the age of 61 years and 1 month.

In the year 1884, May 8th, he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Matson at Kearney, Neb. He with his wife went to Frontier county in 1884 to make their home until the year 1908 when he moved to Gravette, Ark. to which place he resided until his death. He united with the Methodist church south of Eustis and when he moved to Gravette he transferred his membership.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, a sister, Mrs. Kuhns of Chicago, three aunts, one uncle, five cousins, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Evidence of the love of those who knew him best were displayed in the lavish offering of floral pieces from the Gravette and Eustis friends, and Phelps Co. and also showed their appreciation of his friendship. He was laid to rest in the Westmark cemetery.
