Community Shocked by Passing of Floyd Sheffield

The community was shocked to learn of the sudden death last Friday of Floyd Sheffield, farmer living about thirteen miles southeast of Farnam. He suffered an attack of appendicitis, and became so serious by the time the operation was performed that no hope was given for his recovery and he passed away soon after.

Floyd Lucius, son of Lucius and Priscilla Sheffield (deceased) was born August 29, 1892 near Woodward, Iowa and departed this life July 5, 1935 at the Republican Valley Hospital at Cambridge, Nebraska, at the age of 42 years, 10 months and 15 days.

In the fall of 1900, he with his parents moved to Fairview, Okla., where he grew to young manhood and his friends were numbered by his acquaintances.

He was married Feb. 15, 1914 to Edith Presler at Orafino, Nebr.

For two years they made their home at Fairview, Okla., moving to Nebraska in the spring of 1916 at which place he has since resided. Here he made many friends who will feel keenly the loss of a true neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Three sons were born to them, Francis, Harshcel and Leslie, all at home to help comfort their mother in the sorrow of his sudden death.

At an early age he accepted Christ and was baptized into the Church of God in which faith he remained until his death. The Commandments of God and the Faith of Jesus were truly dear to him. The church has lost an earnest worker and a loved brother.

Left to mourn him besides his immediate family are three sisters—Mrs. Blanche Burrell, Mrs. Mable Estep and Mrs. Ruth Colby and a brother, Charles Sheffield, all of Fairview, Oklahoma, besides a brother, Fred Sheffield of Meridian, Idaho, and numerous other relatives and a host of true friends. A sister, Lovilla, preceded him in death in February 1908.

He loved life and met it bravely and cheerfully. He was a loving father and companion, a dear brother and a noble son. He will be sadly missed by his loved ones, but he is resting in peaceful sleep, where there is no more suffering.

His wife and sons and one sister were at his bedside when death came following an operation for appendicitis.

Then lift up your heads,
   Tho your eyelids are wet;
The clouds may be dark,
   But the sun’s shining yet;
Trust fully in Jesus
   And banish your sorrow,
And leave in God’s hands
   The keys of to–morrow.

Funeral services were held in the Orafino Evangelical Church on Saturday, July 7, and were in charge of Rev. Nathan Thomas of the Eustis church, assisted by Rev. Menaugh, pastor of the local church, and he was laid to rest in the Denny Cemetery there to await the call of the life giver, when the dead in Christ shall rise first.

Those who came from a distance are; Mrs. Blanche Burrell, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Estep, Mrs. Ruth Colby, and Charles Sheffield, all of Fairview, Okla., Florence and Laura Presler of Brush, Colo., Jesse Sheffield and family of Cozad, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bailey of Brady, Theron Price of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Nott of Elwood, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Nott and family of Arapahoe, and Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Holcomb of Holbrook.
