OBITUARY

Mrs. Fred O. Coon, Brady, Nebr.

Ruth L. Giddings was born near Port Huron, St. Clair county, Mich., November 9, 1870, and died at her home in Brady, Nebraska, February 4, 1931, age 60 years, 2 months and 26 days.

In 1886, Mrs. Coon was united in marriage to Fred O. Coon of Saganaw, Michigan. To this union eight children were born; six boys and two girls which are as follows; Floyd, Archie, Edward, of Brady, Nebraska; Clarence of Ovid, Colorado; Arnold of Council Bluffs, Iowa; John of Maxwell, Nebraska; Mrs. Grace Rhine of Curtis, Nebraska; and Mrs. Nora Newman, of San Diego, California.

In 1887, Mrs. Coon with her husband moved to Nebraska, settling on a homestead south of Lodgepole. In 1892, they moved to Farnam, Nebraska. In the fall of 1914 they moved to Brady, Nebraska, where she resided until the time of her death.

Mrs. Coon had been in ill health for some time and the news of her passing away was not a surprise to those who knew her true condition. She was a devoted wife and mother and was constantly doing kind acts for others, forgetting self. She was a member of the Methodist church in Farnam, Nebr.

The heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved husband and children in this their hour of affliction.

If we live on this earth only, if our thoughts are hemmed in by the narrow horizon of this life, then we lose indeed those whom death takes from us. But it is death itself which teaches us that there is a future beyond.

While we share the sorrows of others, we also weep for ourselves, for each of us today can recall some sacred form, and our hearts cries, “O, for the touch of a vanished hand; and the sound of a voice that is still.”

She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, eight children, seventeen grandchildren, and one great grandchild, three nieces, and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Brady, last Friday, Feb. 6th, at 2 p.m. conducted by the local pastor, Rev. Homer H. Todd. Interment will be made in the Gaslin cemetery.

All the children were here to attend the funeral. Mrs. Coon’s six sons were the pallbearers.—Brady Vindicator
