George J. Hergenrader

George J. Hergenrader, 86, of North Platte, passed away June 17, 2016, at his home.

He was born on March 31, 1930, to George and Katherine (Maul) Hergenrader in Elm Creek. George was raised in Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1948.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953.

On July 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Doris D. Hilton in Cozad. The couple lived in Cozad until 1969, then moved to North Platte, where George worked for Northwestern Public Service. He retired in 1992.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Platte, former member of the Cozad Jaycees, Cozad volunteer fire department and a charter member of the Cozad Elks Lodge.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris, in 2011; two sisters, Dorothy Sieler-Pitt and Virginia Tracy; and a brother, Stanley Hergenrader.

He is survived by three children, Karen (Steve) Lyne of McCook, Brenda (Bill) Faust and Brian (Becky) Hergenrader, both of North Platte; eight grandchildren, Greg, Jodi, Shawn, Becca, Bret, Kate, Cory and Melissa; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Delbert Hergenrader of North Platte; and two sisters, Beverly Whitehead of California and Lorraine (LaVerne) Gerdes of Lincoln.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
