Ina Slack

GOTHENBURG - Ina Slack, 91, of Gothenburg died June 17, 2008, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long Term.

Ina was born Dec. 16, 1916, at Grand Island to Barent "Bud" Christian and Elsie Delight Pierce Newtson. Ina and her family moved to North Platte in 1918. She attended school at District 31 Pleasant View and graduated from North Platte High School in 1937.

On Aug. 28, 1938, Ina married Gerald Floyd Slack at his parent's home southeast of Brady. To this union, five children were born, G. Dean, Ronald, Donna, Eugene, and Gary.

Gerald and Ina lived south of Brady and Gothenburg. They later moved north of Gothenburg where they made their home until moving into town. In July 2007, Ina moved to Stone Hearth Estates and lived there until moving to Gothenburg Long Term in February 2008.

Ina was a member of the Banner United Methodist Church for over 50 years, the Sunny Southside Club and the Co-Burg Extension Club. Ina enjoyed quilting, embroidery work and crocheting.

Ina is survived by three sons, G. Dean (Pam) of Curtis, Ronnie (Connie) of Callaway, Eugene of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a daughter, Donna (John) Hazen of Farnam; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vera (LeRoy) Fosbinder of North Platte and Lorena Millsap of Broken Bow; along with nieces and nephews.

Ina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1998; and her son, Gary in 2001; two brothers, Melvin and Russell Newtson; and a sister, Lucille Grover.

Memorials are suggested to Banner United Methodist Church or the Gothenburg Senior Center.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Banner United Methodist Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Janie Freeman officiating.

Burial will take place in the Peckham Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.
