Elsie M. Joy
Elsie M. Joy, 88, of North Platte, died Feb. 5, 1999, at Centennial Park Retirement Village.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1910, to Arthur S. and Georgia M. (Raasch) [Allen] in Farnam. She attended schools at North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1928. She attended college at Kearney State College and in Parksville, Mo. After college, she moved to the Arnold area. She taught school in Garfield and Bignell.
On May 23, 1934, she married Donald R. Joy at the Presbyterian Church in North Platte. They lived in North Platte most of their married life.
Mrs. Joy was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was active in work around the church, serving as an elder and teaching Sunday School. She also had a love of knitting.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane (Charles) Gress of North Platte; a son, Lyle (Ruby) Joy of Miami; two sisters, Gertrude Hake of Grant and Dorothy Leth of North Platte; a brother, Robert Allen of Washington; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Mildred Leth; and a brother-in-law, Lee Leth.
