Helen Mae Hosick
Helen Mae Hosick, 91, died Sept. 7, 2002, at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis.
She was born Dec. 20, 1910, to Robert James and Maude Mae Todd McLaughlin at Moorefield, where she graduated from high school in 1929.
On Nov. 29, 1933, she married Woodrow Wirley Hosick at Holdrege. They lived in Curtis until August 1954, where her husband owned and operated the John Deere dealership. The family attended the Congregational Church while in Curtis.
They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., until 1973. While there, she received her licensed practical nursing certificate and was a nurse in private care. They moved to Cozad for six years and then returned to Curtis in 1979.
Mrs. Hosick was an LPN in Cozad and later at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis. After retirement she operated a ceramic shop in her basement for many years. She had lived at Sunset Haven the past five years.
Surviving her is a daughter, Illa Jo (Mervin) Zysset of Farnam; four sons, Robert (Judy) and Darryl (Freda), all of Stockville, Dennis (DeArlin) of Kearney and Leslie (Janet) of Wellfleet; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; 12 nieces and nephews; a sister, Roberta McLaughlin of Hastings; and two sisters-in-law, Aileen Hosick of Mesa, Ariz., and Fern Brethower of Grand Junction, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oct. 15, 1980; a daughter, Lana Zo Hawes; an infant granddaughter; an infant great-granddaughter; her parents; two sisters, Verna Sweet and Lois Hoppe; and a niece and a nephew.
Memorials may go to Sunset Haven Nursing Home, the Curtis Cemetery or to the donor’s choice.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Curtis, with the Rev. Rick Sykes officiating. Burial is in the Curtis Cemetery.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home of Curtis.
