Dennis Hosick
KEARNEY - Dennis L. Hosick, 69, of Kearney died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kearney Evangelical Free Church with the Revs. Mike Shields and Ken Olenik officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery with military honors by the Navy Honors Team in conjunction with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759 and American Legion Post 52 of Kearney.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1941, in Curtis to Woodrow and Helen (McLaughlin) Hosick.
On June 2, 1962, he married DeArlin Scott in Bellflower, Calif.
Survivors include his wife; son, Darren Hosick and his wife, Donna, of Lincoln; daughter, DeAnna Reeder and her husband, Kirk, of Kearney; grandchildren, Dustin Hosick of Lincoln and Kristine and Kory Reeder of Kearney; brothers, Darryl Hosick and his wife, Freda, of Farnam, Robert Hosick and his wife, Judy, of Stockville and Les Hosick and his wife, Jan, of Wellfleet; sister, Illa Jo Zysset and her husband, Mervin, of Farnam; and sisters-in-law, Bennie Scott of Kearney, Hilda Padias and her husband, Bill, of Orange County, Calif., and Kay Richey and her husband, Jimmy, of Las Vegas.
He received his high school education from Colorado Springs, Colo. He entered the U.S. Navy on Oct. 11, 1960, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 9, 1964.
He and DeArlin lived in many places but have resided in Kearney for the last 30 years. Dennis worked for Baldwin's as a supervisor for many years and retired with them.
He was a member of Baldwin's golf league and Vintage Wine softball team. He coached the Kiwanis Little League team for many years. Dennis, along with coaches Dennis Guge and Tom Smith, led their team to an undefeated season. This accomplishment had not been done for 20 years. He was also commissioner for Kearney Little League in 1983.
Dennis also enjoyed Nebraska football and sports, competing and watching. He loved watching his grandchildren's activities. Dennis loved his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lana Zo Hawes.
