Louisa Fair
On Sunday at the Christian Church in Oberlin occurred the funeral of Mrs. Louisa Fair.
Mrs. Fair came to this county from Missouri in 1879 and knew all the hardships that come to women in pioneer life. She was a woman universally loved for to know her was to love her. Her kindness of heart was ever in evidence when neighbors were in need of sympathy or help. It is more than thirty years ago that the writer surveyed a public road near her home although an entire stranger to her kindly manner Mother Fair welcomed him to her table for his dinner was the beginning of a friendship that has lasted all these years and was only terminated by death.
As a member of the Baptist church of Oberlin we have known of her interest and liberality in helping to meet the expenses of the church and encouraging the members to ever live faithful lives and help build up the cause of Christianity. A few years ago, she made by her own hands, a beautiful stand cover for the church and it was appropriately displayed on the Church table while her funeral was being held.
Rev. Elder had charge of her service and preached an excellent sermon, eulogizing the beautiful life of the departed and hoping that all her friends may receive as glad a welcome when they come to pass over that mystic sea as Mother Fair undoubtedly did.
Mother Fair had 99 children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Her oldest daughter, Mrs. Wear has 49 children and grandchildren. She has lived to see the 5th generation and to see her youngest child be 50 years old. A grand good woman has passed to her final reward.
Louisa Sharp was born in Tennessee December 23, 1831, and died in Friend, Nebraska, August 12, 1921, aged 89 years, 7 months, and 20 days. She was married to John Fair, January 11, 1855. To their union were born 8 children, one of whom died in early childhood and one Miss Ada Fair who died in 1903. In her early girlhood she united with the Baptist Church and has been a faithful and earnest Christian for over 70 years. Her husband preceded her in death, February 17, 1894, for the past 18 years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Ptak of Friend, Nebraska. She has been in feeble health for years but was taken suddenly ill Monday, August 8, and finally passed to her reward Friday night August 12. Her three daughters, Mrs. Ptak, Mrs. Burns, and Mrs. White and only son, J. W. Fair were constantly at her bedside during her recent illness.
She leaves to mourn her death 5 daughters and one son: Mrs. Rena Wear of Farnam, Nebraska, Mrs. Renda White of Oberlin, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Ptak of Friend, Nebraska, Mrs. Ida Burns of Grant, Nebraska, Mrs. Rosa Mount of Oberlin, Kansas, and Mr. J. W. Fair of Oberlin, Kansas. They were all present at her funeral, besides a host of relatives and friends.
