William Alexander Wallingford

William Alexander Wallingford, son of Hiram and Hannah Wallingford, was born September 17, 1847 at Montkarmal, Kentucky. He passed away August 15, 1934 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Daisy Depuy in Gothenburg, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 29 days. He was united in marriage on May 21, 1872 to Nancy Caster at Greenburg, Indiana. To this union seven children were born.

In 1887 the Wallingford family came to Nebraska locating on a farm four and one half miles northwest of Farnam, where they lived until 1918. At that time they moved to Gothenburg where he has resided ever since.

Mrs. Wallingford passed away May 15, 1931. Since her death Mr. Wallingford has made his home with his children.

He was baptized and became a member of the Baptist church when a boy later transfering his membership to the Methodist church at Gothenburg where he remained a faithful member to the time of his death.

Mr. Wallingford was a kind and loving father, and a good neighbor, always thinking of the welfare of others.

He leaves to mourn his death four daughters, Mrs. J. Mindenhall of South Bend, Indiana, Mrs. Ben Lapp of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Daisy Depuy and Mrs. Pearl Johnson of Gothenburg. Two sons Charley of Denver, Colorado and Rafe of Gothenburg, one son having passed away in infancy. Mr. Wallingford is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends. He had five sisters and one brother all of whom preceded him in death.

A brief service was held at the home of the daughter in Gothenburg on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock after which the funeral service was held from the Methodist church in Farnam as 3 o’clock. Rev. C. R. Tanner officiating.
