George Starkey Died Suddenly
Last Friday Morning

The death of George B. Starkey, last Friday morning, came as a distinct shock to the entire community. He had felt sick a greater part of the night, but thought nothing of it as he was frequently troubled with gas on the stomach. However he wished to be examined by a physician before he went to his little shoe shop, so Dr. Liggitt was called. Medical attention was given him, and they sat down for a chat. In only a few minutes he began to gasp for breath, artificial respiration and last resorts in medical aid failed to bring back the life breath and Mr. Starkey passed on to his eternal reward.

George B. Starkey was born April 9, 1870 in Hancock County, Ill. He departed this life Jan. 7, 1927 at his home in Farnam, Nebr. Aged 56 years 8 months and 28 days.

He was united in marriage to Mildred O. Mayfield in 1900. To this union four children were born. A baby boy passed away in infancy, and Lewis in 1922. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Harrison McKnight, and one son, Guy, all of this place. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bennington, who resides in Mass. One brother and a sister having preceded him in death. He also leave 4 step grand children.

Mr. Starkey united with the Christian church when a young man. After he came to Nebraska the last time he united with the Farnam Baptist Church in 1911. He has always been faithful and loyal to his church, and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held from the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. E. M. Owings, pastor of the church. Interment was made in the Farnam cemetery.

Mr. Starkey, or George, as he was known to all his friends, lived a very remarkable life, in face of the fact that he was greatly, physically, handicapped. It was very hard for him to get around, especially when the weather was bad, be he was always at his little shop, rain or shine, unless he was sick. He was always cheerful and ready to joke and looked on the bright side of life. He will be greatly missed by his many friends. The Echo extends its sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

The Farnam Echo, 40(10):1 Thursday, Jan. 13, 1927
