Dorothy Marie Jurjens
Dorothy Marie Jurjens, 98, of Abilene, Kan., formerly of Farnam, died April 26, 2011, in Abilene, Kan.
She was born April 6, 1913, in Hastings, daughter of William and Dora (Piel) Crisman. Dorothy grew up in Hastings and attended schools there.
She married Ralph Jurjens on Oct. 15, 1942, at Farnam. To this union three children were born, Lola, Larry, and Melvin.
She lived in Hastings, Farnam, Syracuse, Kan., from 1996-99, Herington, Kan., from 1999-2000, and Abilene, Kan., from 2000-11. She was a member of the Farnam Church of the Nazarene.
She enjoyed taking care of children, cooking, and canning.
Surviving are daughter, Lola (Melvin) Essex, of Herington, Kan.; two sons, Larry (Joanne) Jurjens, of Farnam, Melvin (Linda) Jurjens, of Piedmont, Okla.; sister-in-law, Waunetta Crisman; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; along with numerous extended family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Ralph Joseph Jurjens, on Dec. 27, 1991; her parents; two brothers, Frank and Gerald Crisman; and a great-grandson, Kurtis Essex.
Services will be at Farnam Nazarene Church, 503 Main St., on Saturday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Melvin C. Essex officiating. Interment will follow at the Farnam Cemetery.
Friends will be received for viewing at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, from 1-8 p.m., on Friday, April 29, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Online condolences may be left at blasestrauser.com
