David Johnson Answers Final Summons
David Johnson was born April 15, [1866], in Grayson County, Virginia and departed this life at his home in Farnam the morning of December 5, 1925. Aged 64 years, 7 months and 20 days.
He spent his childhood days and grew to manhood in the locality of his birth and united in marriage to Clementine Adams in the year 1886. They have lived in various states, but for the past several years they have made their home in and around Farnam.
The deceased has always been a hard and faithful laborer, but since the fall of 1924 has been unable to work steadily. His health grew worse until he was forced, a few months ago, to give up entirely. Since that time he has been confined to his bed and suffering a great deal of physical pain.
But while he suffered bodily pain his soul was serene and he often stated that he was ready to go, and even prayed that he might be relieved of his suffering in this peaceful way.
He leaves to mourn his death his faithful wife and a host of gentle, loving friends.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. George Seick officiating. The pallbearers were his immediate friends and fellow workers of the section crew. Interment was made in the Farnam cemetery.
Sunset and evening star, and one clear call for me,
And may there be no moaning at the bar when I put out to sea;
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep,
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell, and after that the dark.
May there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark; For tho’ from out, are borne of time and place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.
—Tennyson.
