Obituary Collection
Sarah Arabelle (Raff) James

Sarah Arabelle James, the daughter of William and Artemessa Raff, was born at Shelby, Iowa, May 24, 1866, and departed this life on January 14, 1950, at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 21days.

At an early age in life, she with her parents moved to Osborn, Kansas, and it was here she met and married John W. Mosley. Later the young couple moved to Shickley, Nebraska, then settled near Farnam in the year 1899. To this union were born five children; Mrs. Minnie Murray, Mrs. Eva Maloney and Floyd Mosley, all of Gothenburg; Mrs. Pearl Cross of Moorefield and Mrs. Vera Easterday of Buhl, Idaho. The children's father preceded her in death October 31, 1937.

On April 22, 1915, she was united in marriage with G. C. James of Fairmont, Nebraska, and they made their home in Gothenburg. Mr. James passed away in 1929.

Besides her children, she leaves seventeen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Two brothers, Wm. T. Raff of Clyde, Kansas and Royal Raff of Topeka, Kansas. Her father, mother, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Grandma James had been ailing for several months and Saturday had sat down in her rocker to rest, where she peacefully went to sleep. Her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Snell, came to visit her and found that the Lord had taken her in death. She was a loving mother, a great believer in God, a good neighbor - to know her was to love her, and she will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, by her neighbors and many friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, January 18th, at the Olesen funeral home at two o'clock, Elder E. E. Giesler of the Church of God in Moorefield officiating. Miss Delores Cross and Mrs. Audrey Kotschwar, granddaughters of Mrs. James, sang three selections, accompanied by Mrs. Robert Rude at the organ. Six grandsons, Gordon Cross, Roland Cross, Theron Cross, Earl Maloney, Burr Murray and Charles Webb, served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Farnam cemetery.
