Farnam Correspondence

Cyrenus Griffis was born in Vermont in 1826, married in May, 1852. He enlisted in the 2nd Vermont Volunteers in Aug. 1862 and at teh expiration of his term of service re-enlisted in the Elgin, Ill. Battery and served to the end of the war. He lived in Illinois for 15 years and moved to Beaver City, Neb. in 1879 and resided there until he moved to Farnam in 1892; since when he had resided here. He has been an invalid for 14 years and helpless practically 10 of them. He owes the prolongation of his live to the unwearying devotion of his wife, one of the most self-sacrificing women in Nebraska. He was able to move about some up to the time of his death only 15 minutes elapsing from the time of his entry into the house until the end came as noiselessly as swiftly. The funeral service was conducted in the Congregational church which was filled to its utmost capacity by his relatives and friends.

He lies buried in the Farnam cemetery. He died at 6 p.m. Decoration Day and was buried at 12 p.m. June 1, 1896. Rev. D. L. McBride preached a very eloquent sermon.
