Obituary Collection
John (Jack) DeLate

John DeLate was born at Nora, Ill., Aug. 18, 1860. Died March 29, 1926. Age 65 years, 7 months and 11 days.

He received his early education at Nora Public schools. In March 1878, with his mother and sisters, he moved to Republic County, Kansas where he was married in 1879 to Miss Elzina Painter.

To this union were born 11 children, five of whom preceded him to the beyond--Karnet and Clair in infancy; Jack and Don, and Mrs. Edith Bray reaching maturity.

The six surviving are: George V. of Willard, Colo., Mrs. Elma Waits and Mrs. Bernice Swanson, of Farnam, Mrs. Julia Hill, Mrs. Clara Nall, and Roy all of Moorefield.

He gave his best energies to the development of the country and the establishment of a home. He gave to the community in which he lived an example of perseverance and thrift which was of benefit to many of less courage and determination. He possessed rare good judgment, and cherished an uncompromising regard for honesty and uprightness. He respected the truth from principle and despised all shams. When such men die they are missed and remembered, and the memories which are cherished longest are the good things which they have done. A man of superior attainments, he led a life of simplicity, and taught his family to fear more the condemnation of conscience than the criticism of the world.

Funeral services where held at the Community church in Moorefield last Thursday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. J.E. Craig of Farnam. Interment was made in the Farnam cemetery.
