Obituary

Marion Elwood Brown, son of Thomas A. and Mary Ellen Brown, was born Jan. 23, 1899 on a farm south of Farnam. He grew to manhood and attended school in the Elwood and Eustis communitites.

On Feb. 28, 1921, he was united in marriage to Lillie Bell Stephens at North Platte. To this union ten children were born: six sons: Robert, Carl, Thomas, Vernon, Marion and Kenneth and four daughters: Dorothy, Lillian, Rosemary and Juanita. The family lived at Moorefield for a number of years and moved to Farnam in 1942.

Elwood Brown worked in the silica mine at Eustis for several years and later for the Village of Farnam. He was a member of the Farnam United Methodist Church.

He passed away at Cozad Community Hospital, Oct. 8, 1972 at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 15 days. He was preceded in death by one son, Marion who died in 1945 while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Lillie of Farnam, five sons, Robert and Carl both of Des Moines, Ia., Thomas of Plainview, Nebr., Vernon of Sioux City, Iowa and Kenneth of Lincoln; four daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. A. J.) Rinke of North Platte, Lillian (Mrs. Virgil) Dishman of Council Bluffs, Rosemary (Mrs. Kenneth) Kostman and Juanita (Mrs. Boyd) Lynch both of Cozad; one brother, Ernest Brown of Cornelius, Ore., one sister, Ora (Mrs. Paul) Roberts of Semla, Colo.; 21 granchildren; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were Oct. 11 in Farnam United Methodist Church with Rev. Conley K. Hinrichs officiating. Interment was in Farnam Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Harold Adkisson, Clyde Kotschwar, Gerald Thompson, Ralph Jurjens, Kenneth Stevens and Russell Wilcox.

Music was provided by Mrs. Charles Davis and Lawrence Oberg with Mrs. Raymond Smith as accompanist.
