He is survived by his loving wife, Doris, his father, his four children, also two sisters, Henrietta Beisner and Elma Haskins of North Platte.
The mother of the deceased passed away June 29, 1938.
The funeral services were held from the M. E. church on Monday afternoon. Rev. Johnson conducted the service. The remains were laid to rest in the Farnam cemetery.
The pallbearers were: Donald Beisner, Clyde Beisner, Carol Haskins, Theron Haskins, Virgil Brannan, and Harold Brown.
A favorite poem of Berton’s:
Wouldn’t this old world be better
If the folks we met would say:
"I know something good about you,"
And then treat us just that way.
Wouldn’t it be fine and dandy
If each hand clasp warm and true,
Carried with it this assurance,
"I know something good about you."
Wouldn’t life be lots more happy?
If the good thats [sic] in us all,
Were the only thing about us
That folks bothered to recall?
Wouldn’t life be lots more happy,
If we praised the good we see?
For there’s such a lot of goodness
In the worst of you and me.
Wouldn’t it be nice to practice,
That fine way of thinking too?
You know something good about me
I know something good about you.
