CEDER FAMILY HERE IN 1886

Eugene Ceder is another old timer who has passed to his reward. He came to this country about 1886 and homesteaded southeast of Farnam. Mr. Ceder was a cheese maker and opened a cheese factory on his farm. He was known all over the country and was extremely popular. Because of the difficulty of keeping milk sweet in those days with no ice Mr. Ceder was forced to curtail his cheese making to the milk from his own cows. He also fed cattle and took pride in his feeders. He was an all round fellow and liked by everyone. His wife died in 1922. His daughter, Mrs. Emory Golay is still residing here. Mr. Ceder was so used to the slap stick comedy among his friends that he said if he walked down the street and someone did not hit him, shove him off the sidewalk or do something of that nature to him he thought they were all mad at him. Mr. Ceder was a Civil War veteran and in the printed story of his regiment he was mentioned several times for bravery in action.

MRS. EMMA AUSTIN

Of the few pioneers mothers we are privileged to have Mrs. Emma Austin in the little group remaining, who came here in the early settlement of this country, and went through the struggles and hardships that were typical of most of the pioneers, that makes the young mothers wonder how any of them could possibly have endured through it all.
Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Austin took a homestead 12 miles northwest of Farnam, far enough away that it was only with difficulty that they were able to have the services of a doctor, or many of the advantages that we feel are so necessary in the present day. The family moved to their residence in Farnam in 1907, and on July 27, 1919 Mr. Austin passed away. Mrs. Austin makes her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. G. W. Pollard.
They were the parents of Mrs. (Daisy) Craig, Brady; Mrs. (Eleanor) Craig, Ogden, Utah; George in Iowa; Ira, Gothenburg; Mrs. (Ina) Rowland and Mrs. (Edith) Pollard. Irvin Austin passed away at his home in Curtis about two years ago.
Mrs. Austin has 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
