GREENLEE FAMILY CAME
FROM IOWA IN 1887

Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Greenlee and their two sons, Frank and Glenn arrived here from Bell Plaine, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1887 and took a relinquished homestead and tree claim southwest of here, which had belonged to his brother, John Greenlee, who returned to Bell Plaine and made his home there the remainder of his life.
Two daughters were born in the "soddie" which for many years was the home of this happy family.
In 1892 the family returned to Bell Plaine. In about eight years Frank and his bride the former Miss Mary Smith of Bell Plaine, arrived at the old homestead, where they have since made their home. Frank is now a commissioner of Frontier county. They have three sons, Harry, who with his family lives at Albion; Milo with his wife, the former Miss Evelyn Gish and their son live at Denver; Francis, who was married a year ago to Miss Florence Wharton reside in Colo.
Mr. and Mrs. Greenlee and Glenn, Mabel and Naomi returned in 1902 and the next spring in March they moved to their residence in Farnam. Mr. Greenlee passed away April 29, 1931. The two daughters, Naomi and Mrs. (Mabel) Burrell preceded him in death. Glenn and wife, the former Ethel Earhart and sons reside at Sidney, Nebr. Grandma Greenlee has six children and several great grandchildren.
While talking with Frank recently he said he well remembered the severe blizzard of [1888]. It started out nice and warm in the morning and his father went after wood at the Circle Bar ranch about 12 miles from their home. The family was left at the Richard Ealy home. By the time Mr. Greenlee returned and the family had started for home it had turned severely cold. Mrs. Greenlee and the children covered up the best they could in the wagon and Mr. Greenlee walked at the side of the wagon and drove to keep from getting so cold. The snow got to blowing hard before they reached home. By morning it was a raging blizzard that left a never to be forgotten story in its path of destruction.
