Farnam Church
of the Nazarene

By Mrs. L. E. Spencer

In the early part of the year 1926 the prayers of a few Holiness people during a Holiness church were answered. When Rev. C. B. Johnson, pastor of Lone Star church was holding a revival with Rev. B. H. Edwards, he secured him for a meeting with us. Having rented the hall they conducted meetings for three weeks, after which a Holiness mission was organized. We had services Sunday afternoons and prayer meetings Friday evenings.
At assembly time in July, 1926 Rev. J. D. Williams succeeded the Rev. C. B. Johnson and had charge of Lone Star. Rev. Williams secured Rev. A. Naughten and Rev. Baskin to hold a tent meeting beginning July 23 and continuing through August 8. Rev. H. Chambers, our District Superintendent at that time, came August 11, 1926 and organized The Church of the Nazarene with twenty-two charter members.
With no place to worship God moved upon Brother Austin Teel to remodel a little house on his lots in the west part of town which later he sold to the church. As the church grew in years it grew in faith and strength and felt we could support a pastor of our own, up to this time the pastor of Lone Star had held service for us each week.

In the year 1928 at assembly time we called Rev. Anna Nutter as our pastor. While Rev. Nutter was our pastor the church found it necessary to build more room which they did with all indebtedness cleared away.
Rev. Nutter was our pastor until 1931 when Rev. L. C. Duncan was our pastor until July 1932. Not until October 1, 1932 did we have another pastor, at that time Rev. E. Mead was our pastor until July 1934 at which time our present pastor, Rev. O. A. McGuire was called and has a recall at this time for a longer period. We have had some of the best young people of the land in our church. Three have been called to preach and one called as an evangelistic singer. Out of our midst God has called four to be with him.
We as a church fell like traveling on and keep the banner of Holiness floating over the little village of Farnam.
