Rolph Family Here in 1884

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Rolph and family, Clayton, Frederika and Lillian of Westfield, New York arrived in Dawson county in 1884 and settled on a homestead near here where they encountered the many deprivations typical of an unsettled country.
Mr. and Mrs. Rolph were active in all enterprises which were for the betterment of the community and it was a severe loss to the community when Mr. Rolph died in January, 1891. Mr. Rolph served his country during the Civil War and was made Lieutenant Jan. 1, 1865, and served until July, 1865, when he was honorably
discharged. It was during the time he was serving in the war that he contracted a lung trouble that left him weakened, and from which it resulted in his death.
Mrs. Rolph later married C. C. Underwood, who after some time died and she then moved to Mishawaka, Ind., where she passed away some years later.
Clayton married Miss Jennie Lazelle of this community. They were the parents of one son. They have both passed away. Frederika, who married Jay Stebbins lives at Mishawaka. Mr. Stebbins died Dec. 31, 1935. They were the parents of seven children. Lillian, who married Chas. Ainlay lives at Mishawaka, Ind. Mr. Ainlay passed away a few years ago. They were the parents of six children.
